Vision.app's Pride: Carmen Travel and the Power of Female Talent in Science

February 11, 2026 | By Dr. Rosa Salmerón Campillo

As a woman and a member of the vision.app team, I am not writing this article today just to share a technological milestone. I write it with the pride of knowing that in our lab we have women who don't just imagine the future but build it with their own hands.

On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, our colleague Carmen Travel — physicist, optometrist, and data science expert — was interviewed on Radio Sureste COPE. Her story is that of many of us: a constant struggle to break through glass ceilings and prove that talent has no gender.

Carmen Travel Radio Interview

At 28, Carmen has a brilliant curriculum born from a "restless mind." After studying Optometry, she felt it wasn't enough to know how to "drive the car"; she needed to open the hood to understand how the engine worked, which led her to also graduate in Physics.

Innovation with a Woman's Name

That determination is what she applies today at vision.app to develop a technology that transforms visual health:

  • Science in Your Pocket: We are developing an application capable of measuring myopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia using only a mobile phone.
  • Advanced Physics: By leveraging the chromatic aberration of the human eye, we have managed to make tests that traditionally require 6 meters of distance performable in just 2 meters.
  • From "Aggressor" to Ally: We want the smartphone to stop being seen as an enemy of eyesight and become a tool for prevention.
"We want to prove that our project has value, that we know we can take on the world, and that it can truly serve the citizens." — Carmen Travel, Researcher at VisionApp.

Breaking the Mold at MWC 2026

During the interview, Carmen recalled how, historically, women in pure science careers have sometimes been silenced or relegated to secondary tasks. That is why, for us, it is a milestone that vision.app is the only company from Murcia representing cutting-edge technology at the Spanish pavilion of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this March.

From One Woman to Another

From vision.app, speaking woman to woman, we want to send a clear message. Do not let the lack of role models make you doubt your ability. You are as capable as anyone else. We call on all the girls who today dream of data or science: do not bend.

As Carmen says, go without fear. If you don't find a path, build it yourselves, because the next great figure in science could be one of you.
